With 40 grind settings and a handy timer switch, the Virtuoso™ is the ideal companion for a wide range of coffee makers, from French press to espresso. Its 40mm conical burrs, driven by a high torque 480-watt DC motor, deliver a consistent particle size uniformity at both the coarse and fine ends of the scale. Grind directly into the sturdy grounds bin, or hold the front-mounted pulse button and grind directly into a portafilter.
Grinding for espresso? Let the Virtuoso’s professional-grade 40mm conical burrs perform their magic for a consistent, fine grind. How about a French Press? The Virtuoso can handle that too, with a particle size uniformity that gives you consistency from cup to cup. In fact, the Virtuoso is so consistent at both the coarse and fine ends of the grind range that we consider it to be in a class all by itself — and so do many of the micro- and specialty-roasters who swear by it.
The secret to the Virtuoso’s consistent, smooth grind is two-fold: an efficient DC motor keeps your beans cool, even during extended grind times, while a combination of electric and gear speed reducers slow the burr to 450 RPM, ensuring a smooth bean feed and reducing noise, heat and static buildup.
The Virtuoso’s exterior is just as finely tuned as its interior — a convenient front-mounted pulse button allows for grinding directly into an espresso filter basket, while a 60-second timer means that it’s easy to replicate the ideal grind time. With the Virtuoso, the look goes beyond merely functional. A sculptured metal top and base give this grinder an expensive, elegant image that adds a sense of class and quality to kitchen counters and coffee shop workspaces alike.
When you want it all, the Virtuoso is the grinder that will get you there with function, elegance, and style.
Manufactured in Europe, the Virtuoso’s 40 mm conical burrs grind coffee at 1.5 to 2.4 g/sec. depending on the setting. But what really sets the Virtuoso burrs apart is that these burrs can do a very uniform grind, with a distinct lack of fines across its grinding range. So the Virtuoso burrs are exceptional for espresso, drip, manual brewing methods and Press Pot. These conical burrs are durable and will remain sharp for many years. The burrs have a precision mounting system to ensure a stable platform for accurate grinding.
In 2012, Baratza introduced the second generation Gearbox (GB 2.0). With GB 2.0, Baratza has significantly increased the strength and durability of the drive transmission. In addition to a new drive shaft, motor mounting plate and bushings, this change includes a new drive gear made of 15% glass filled thermo plastic which is quieter than the prior metal gear, wears better and is more shock resistant. During the rigorous testing process, stainless steel screws were thrown into the burrs, and in every case the motor/gear/burrs stopped immediately, the (automatically-resettable) thermal cutout was triggered, and the gears were fine.
Turn the hopper and with 40 settings you can quickly adjust from fine for espresso to coarse for French Press. The grind range is from 200 to 1200 microns.
A powerful, high torque DC motor effortlessly drives the burrs. This motor turns slowly resulting in cool, quiet operation and permits long grinding duty-cycles. The circuitry is equipped with an automatically resetting thermal cutoff switch.
An innovative burr calibration system ensures that each grinder has the full range of grind. If necessary, the grinders can be user calibrated.
With unique speed control, the Virtuoso uses a combination of gear and electronic speed reduction to control the rotation of the burr to 500 RPM. This slow speed reduces heat, noise, and static generation in the grinder. It also ensures that the beans feed smoothly into the burrs.

I've only had this grinder for a week and love it. Very consistent and not as noisy as other grinders. Impressed with the packaging.
Great coffee grinder and I would recommend that grinder, works great no issues at all. Yes, it is more expensive than other coffee grinders, but you get what you pay for. So far the best one we have owned. The grind is excellent, and can be adjusted for personal use. Good buy.
I have had other grinders and the Baratza is by far the best. I never clogs and is very user friendly. The grind is perfect and can be adjusted for personal use. Highly recommended.
I previously had the Maestro Plus for years. The Virtuoso grinds better and quieter. The container for the ground coffee has much less static and is easier to clean out. The grinder is very solid, well made, and easy to use. Daily, I do an espresso grind for the Aroma Saeco and drip grind for a drip pot. Service from Espressotec was quick and flawless.
I bought this grinder almost a year ago and have been using it regularly and am very happy with it. The set up was easy, the instructions are very clear and it is very simple to switch between different grinding sizes. The timer on the side is also very handy for grinding larger amounts. This is my first high quality grinder, so I can't compare it to anything else, but so far, it has met all of my needs and proven to be a valuable addition to my espresso routine.
I have been using the baratza grinder daily for just over a month, and so far it has been perfect. At about a 9 setting, it powders the beans to a fine sand, just right for my espresso maker. I hope that the Virtuoso continues its fine chores without a hitch for a number of years - despite some reviews to the contrary...Anyway, wonderful grinder at a reasonable price and great service from this dealer.
Quite soft, excellent even grinding. Nice sized hopper. No complaints, arrived in great condition with excellent packaging
This grinder works very well and is solid and well built. I would happily buy it again if I was making drip coffee or using an automated espresso machine. However, for my Europiccola, it doesn't grind fine enough to produce consistent espresso without needing to control the tamping pressure super precisely.
I first had to re-calibrate it because it wouldn't grind fine enough (weird that it ships set to coarsest calibration setting). Then, after re-calibrating, it would grind down as fine as it could and when I dialled further, nothing came out. So I appeared to hit some lower limit. I discussed with Don at Espressotec and he suggested I try a flat burr grinder. I'll update this review once that arrives. Once again, great support from Espressotec.
After a ton of research both online and through using some friends' grinders we chose the Virtuoso based on its performance in its price range. So far it's been great!
Espressotec was quick and provided fantastic customer service. They sent me an incorrect accessory and upon calling them they told me keep the incorrect product and said they would ship the correct item the next day! No hassle! I'll be purchasing through Espressotec again.
