Rocket Espresso: ECM in Milan, Italy (founded by Friedrich Berenbruch) was the inspiration and founder of the famous Giotto espresso machine over 10 years ago. In 2007, with the blessings of Freidrich Berenbruch, a new company called Rocket Espresso was formed in Italy by Daniele Berenbruch, the son of Friedrich, and Andrew Meo of New Zealand, (of the very popular Rocket Espresso brand in New Zealand). Rocket Espresso have now taken over full production of the Giotto Premium Plus and the Cellini Premium Plus in Milan, Italy, not far from the ECM plant. The main goal of this spin-off was to improve production of these two very popular models for which worldwide demand always outstripped the supply. With Rocket Espresso now up to speed, ECM can better manage production of their full commercial espresso machine lineup.
Rocket Company BrochureThe award winning Rocket Giotto Premium Plus is a beautiful machine for any location! It is a light duty commercial (prosumer) espresso machine completely suitable for home or busy office. The original Giotto was "rated the best small commercial espresso machine" by David Schomer of Cafe Vivace magazine of Seattle. Derfeinschmecker magazine of Germany chose it European winner of high-end home machines and it was called the "Rolls Royce" of filter handle espresso machines by Test magazine. Very high praise indeed!
The new Rocket Giotto Premium Plus carries on with the style, performance and pedigree that made the original Giotto's famous, and now boasts many new features, including even more robust steam and hot water valves. The Rocket Giotto Premium Plus has a new "cool-touch" steam wand using a patented double wall wand that prevents the steam and hot water wands from getting too hot. This means a cooler-to-the-touch steam wand which also reduces milk baking on that often occurs and makes cleanup a breeze. The new steam wand also produces a dryer steam, perfect for texturing and producing silky smooth frothed milk. In addition, the steam and hot water wands now rotate in any position because of their "swivel ball-mount" to the valve. Because of the increased steam available a 2-hole steam tip has been added. A stylish 68mm boiler pressure gauge shows when the Giotto is ready to perform.
An improved water reservoir system makes fill up and cleaning easy. Simply lift the reservoir straight out in one easy step for filling or cleaning. A valve on the bottom of the reservoir engages both the water supply and the "out of water sensor", when the reservoir is pressed down. Also, the cup warmer guard is now 5.5mm thick. The retro design comes from the 50's and 60's. As for stance, the machine sits on redesigned feet that have 125 mm
2 of surface area contact. These new feet make the Giotto sit 30mm off of the counter which enhances its presence in any scenario.
Faema E-61 Group Head: This espresso machine has a modified Faema E-61 group head, a 9 lb coffee brewing group made of marine grade brass with
thermosyphon circulation. This thermosyphon system is used in all commercial heat exchanger machines and helps immeasurably in eliminating thermal drift, one of the main causes of "bitter espresso". The Giotto is fitted with a commercial heat-exchanger system, unlike the single boiler system used on home machines. The Giotto Premium Plus is also fitted with larger inlet and outlet group pipes (10mm) to ensure thermal retention of the group head.
One of the main reasons the Rocket Giotto Premium Plus E-61 group head thermosyphon system works better than many other similar E-61 systems is the modified thermosyphon and thermosyphon piping and heat exchanger with a flow control feature built in. As you can surmise, one of the biggest problems facing espresso machine engineers is the effort to control the temperature when different volumes of water are demanded. Additional temperature stabilization efforts include thick brass endplates for the boiler that serve as a heat sink. Most other 1.8L boiler systems use thin copper endplates.
The large 1.8-liter boiler allows for steam, hot water and espresso delivery all at the same time. This machine may be left on continuously. It is suitable for up to 25 drinks/day on a long-term basis but can produce up to 40 espressos per hour!
The Rocket Giotto Premium Plus features all commercial grade parts; boiler pressure gauge, anti-syphon valve, back-pressure relief valve, adjustable commercial pressurestat (accurate to 0.035 degrees) for accurate boiler pressure, steel frame construction and stainless steel working surfaces. The Giotto is fitted with a boiler level probe which automatically regulates the boiler water level and an expansion valve. The Giotto features a true commercial independent heat exchanger system for superior temperature stability of the brewed espresso! The group head is a newer version of the famous Faema E-61, which has been in continuous production since 1961! Pre-infusion is possible by engaging lever to half-way point prior to engaging microswitch(pump).
Now available with the choice of two different plumb-in kits! The Flojet kit is an additional $175 (save $45) or the ECM kit for $100!
